서울시 교육청에서는 학생들의 주된 생활공간인 교실의 리모델링을 통해 창의적, 감성적 공간 조성하고 미래교육을 지향하는 일반교실 공간의 신모델 제시하기 위하여 40여명의 건축가들과 2018년 2차 ‘꿈을 담은 교실 만들기’ 사업을 추진하였다. 사업대상 학교들 중 하나인 서울 성원초등학교는 노후화된 건물 속에 오랫동안 유형화된 전형적인 학교 교실로 구성되어 있었다.

본 프로젝트는, 학교 구성원(선생님들, 학부모, 학생들)과의 지속적인 의견 교류와 협의를 통해 디자인의 방향성을 정리하고, 학교 특성 및 각 사용자의 요구사항을 반영하여, 시범적으로 1학년 학생들의 주된 생활공간인 교실과 복도, 휴게공간을 창의적이고 조화로운 공간으로 조성하는 것을 목표로 하였다.

본 디자인은 정면/측면/후면으로 방향이 정해지는 기존의 직사각형 교실의 축을 비틀어 버려져 있던 구석 공간을 아이들의 적극적인 놀이공간과 수납공간으로 활용하고자 하였다. 이는 개념적으로는 전형적인 교실 공간 구성의 고정관념을 깨는 동시에, 기능적으로는 교실 공간의 활용도를 극대화하는 디자인의 새로운 시도이다. 아이들의 사물함과 교실의 수납장은 새로운 벽체와 일체화되고, 모든 공간은 아이들의 스케일에 맞추어 디자인 및 제작되었다. 5개의 교실은 두 가지 계열의 파스텔 톤 색상으로, 교실의 디자인은 복도와 휴게공간으로 확장되게 된다.

The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education will organize a second phase of the project called ‘Making A Dream-Filled Classroom’ in 2018 with more than 40 architects to introduce a new prototype of classroom space that aims to create creative and emotional space through remodeling of the existing classroom. One of the participating schools, Sungwon Elementary School in Seoul, consisted of typical school classrooms in an aged building.

This project aims to clarify the direction of design through continuous exchange of opinions and consultation with school members (teachers, parents, students) and reflects the characteristics of the school and the needs of each user. The goal was to create classrooms, corridors, and resting spaces that are living spaces as creative and harmonious spaces.

The design tilted the axis of the existing rectangle classroom, which was directed to the front / side / rear, and tried to utilize the discarded corner space as an active play space and storage space for the children. This is a new attempt to maximize the utilization of classroom space functionally while at the same time breaking the stereotypes of conceptual classroom space composition conceptually. The lockers of the children and the storage of the classroom are integrated with the new wall, and all the space is designed and manufactured to the scale of the children. The five classrooms have two different pastel colors, and the classroom design extends to the hallway and resting area.
