Bilateral Theatre is a space that is opened to both sides. Audiences, who are spread around the bilateral projection screen, sit to gaze at each other. They watch films, and they watch whoever’s there on the other side. Under such arrangement, free and without any sense of direction, the audience may take whatever position that’s most comfortable for them. To achieve this, exactly 1000 recycled pallets, which are used for cargo loading, were assembled to newly become a theatre space. Tectonic combination of individual units softly surrounds the whole theatre, forming everything, from floor to staircase and benches, and even handrails and backs of chairs. Furthermore, the gathering of these, as a light spawning screen, alters the theatre from a space of darkness into an open space that is overflowing with beautifully spawned light.

Bilateral Theatre II is a tectonic landscape which fit into the gallery space in Daegu Art Museum. The artificial topography, the folded and elevated landscape resulting from circulation and view, was pixelized into pallete units which fully filled up the entire gallery space.

Bilateral Theatre는 서로를 향한 열린 공간이다. 양방향 프로젝트 스크린을 중심으로 펼쳐진 관객들은 서로를 바라보며 앉는다. 영화를 보기도 하고 반대편 상대방을 바라보기도 한다. 관객들은 상하 좌우 없는 자유로운 배치 속에서 자유롭게 가장 편안한 자세를 잡는다. 이를 위해 화물 적재용으로 쓰이는 재활용 파렛트(pallete)가 모여서 극장 공간으로 재탄생한다. 각 유닛들의 텍토닉적(Tectonic) 조합은 극장의 바닥면 에서부터 계단과 벤치가 되기도 하고, 등받이와 핸드레일이 되기도 하면서 전체 극장을 공간적으로 부드럽게 에워싼다. 또한 이들의 집합은 빛을 산란하는 스크린으로써, 극장을 더 이상 어둠의 공간이 아닌 아름답게 산란된 빛이 넘치는 열린 공간으로 뒤바꿔준다.

Bilateral Theatre II 는 대구미술관의 전시공간에 들어선 구축적 지형이다. 관람객의 동선과 관람의 공간을 고려하여 들어올려지거나(elevated) 접혀진(folded) 인공의 지형(topography)은 파렛트(pallete) 유닛으로 픽셀화 (pixelization) 되어 전시공간을 가득 채우게 된다.
