서울시 교육청에서는 학생들의 주된 생활공간인 교실의 리모델링을 통해 창의적, 감성적 공간 조성하고 미래교육을 지향하는 일반교실 공간의 신모델 제시하기 위하여 여러 건축가들과 2019년 2차 ‘꿈을 담은 교실 만들기’ 사업을 추진하였다. 사업대상 학교들 중 하나인 서울 오현초등학교는 노후화된 건물 속에 오랫동안 유형화된 전형적인 학교 교실로 구성되어 있었다.

본 프로젝트는, 학교 구성원(선생님들, 학부모, 학생들)과의 지속적인 의견 교류와 협의를 통해 디자인의 방향성을 정리하고, 학교 특성 및 각 사용자의 요구사항을 반영하여, 시범적으로 1학년 학생들의 주된 생활공간인 교실과 복도, 휴게공간을 창의적이고 조화로운 공간으로 조성하는 것을 목표로 하였다.

본 디자인은 이례적으로 높은 천장고를 갖고 있는 기존교실의 공간적 장점을 살려 보다 입체적인 공간, 보다 개방적인 공간을 만들어주고자 하였다. 교실의 사각지대인 각 코너는 다락, 무대, 전시벽, 선생님공간 등으로 구성되며 서로 소통하는 관계가 만들어진다. 또한, 단절된 복도와 교실의 관계는 다락을 통해, 그리고 다락 하부 포켓공간을 통해 연계되고 확장된다. 모든 공간과 가구는 아이들의 스케일에 맞춘 디자인으로 각 반마다 파스텔 톤의 포인트 색채를 통해 차별화를 두었다.

The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education will organize a second phase of the project called ‘Making A Dream-Filled Classroom’ in 2019 with architects to introduce a new prototype of classroom space that aims to create creative and emotional space through remodeling of the existing classroom. One of the participating schools, Ohyun Elementary School in Seoul, consisted of typical school classrooms in an aged building.

This project aims to clarify the direction of design through continuous exchange of opinions and consultation with school members (teachers, parents, students) and reflects the characteristics of the school and the needs of each user. The goal was to create classrooms, corridors, and resting spaces that are living spaces as creative and harmonious spaces.

The design tried to make more three-dimensional space and more open space by taking advantage of the spatial advantages of the existing classrooms with exceptionally high ceilings. Each corner, which is the blind spot of the classroom, consists of an attic, stage, exhibition wall, teacher’s space, and so on. In addition, the relationship between the disconnected corridor and the classroom is linked and extended through the attic and through the attic pocket space. All the spaces and furniture are designed to the children’s scale, and each half is distinguished by the pastel colors.
